Welcome to Dr. Piprek on the Applied Research and Photonics Inc.'s Board of Directors
 
Harrisburg, PA. With a great pleasure ARP welcomes Dr. Joachim Piprek as a new member of its Board of Directors. Dr. Piprek, Founder and President of the NUSOD Institute, has joined as a member of the Board of Directors of Applied Research and Photonics, Inc. effective 12/06/2007. As a recognized leader and author in photonics, and in particular in optoelectronic simulation, Dr. Piprek will complement ARP's simulation and modeling team in an advisory capacity. In a congratulatory note, ARP's Founder Dr. Anis Rahman welcomes Dr. Piprek on board. Dr. Rahman expressed sincere thanks for his well wishes and for his commitment to help ARP. Dr. Piprek's brief bio is appended below:

Joachim Piprek received his doctorate in theoretical physics from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. For more than two decades, he worked in industry and academia on design, simulation, and analysis of optoelectronic devices. He has taught graduate courses at universities in Germany, Sweden, and in the United States. Recently, he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where his research focused on long-wavelength vertical-cavity lasers and on GaN-based light emitters. He currently is an Adjunct Professor at Rensselaer's School of Engineering.
Dr. Piprek has published three books (see side panel), five book chapters, and more than 100 journal and conference publications. He is a founder and chair of the annual conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (IEEE) and he also chairs the annual SPIE conference on Physics, Fabrication, and Application of Optoelectronic Devices. Dr. Piprek was invited guest editor for special journal issues on optoelectronic device simulation and he gives short courses on this field around the world.
